Life After Rehab: AA Meetings in Orlando
AA Meetings In Orlando | Doing Life With Addiction Support Groups
If you recently completed an alcohol abuse rehab program in Orlando, you’ve likely heard about making AA and other support groups a priority as you begin this new journey. The AA program gives you the right tools to move forward in your sobriety, in addition to an opportunity to find support and encouragement through other people walking similar paths. Sobriety isn’t an easy road, but with the right tools and creating the right support circle, you will learn how to protect yourself and see warning signs if you begin to make choices that could put your sobriety in danger.Â
Being part of AA meetings regularly will remind you that you are not alone but rather part of a strong community trying to move forward with the same purpose: staying sober. When you begin AA, you will learn about 12 different steps to work through. These aren’t steps that you work through quickly but rather over time with a sponsor’s help. One of the first steps is recognizing yourself and being aware that alcohol is an issue. In meetings, you will start listening to testimonies and getting to know more people. You may feel freedom in these meetings, listening to stories from people who have lived through similar experiences as you. In time, you will also feel safe at your AA meetings, understanding that everything said here is said in confidentiality, so if you feel like sharing pieces of your story, it stays within the group.Â
AA has helped countless people stay on the road to recovery, and studies even support this fact. Several studies have shown the efficacy and benefits gained when someone in recovery attends AA meetings or other support and self-help groups that deal with alcohol abuse. In addition, research has also found that people who participated at a more significant number of weekly meetings, worked on completing the 12 steps, and identified as a member of Alcoholics Anonymous were more likely to abstain during that time than those who attended without much involvement.Â
At WhiteSands Alcohol and Drug Rehab, we encourage everyone in our alcohol rehab programs to attend AA meetings to stay on track in their recovery, keep their minds free of dangerous and recovery-threatening thoughts, occupying their time around other people in recovery who will be supportive and positive influences.Â

Benefits of AA In Helping Stay Sober
Frequent attendance at support groups and involvement in association activities are associated with reaping maximum benefits from AA meetings. Attending a minimum of two to three weekly meetings during the first months of treatment can build a strong foundation of support in your recovery. However, the amount of times you attend each week is a very personal choice. Once you begin trying various meetings and locations, you will determine how many sessions per week work best for you and which groups you feel connected with.Â
One of the most valuable benefits of attending AA meetings is the opportunity to build a new circle of friends with the same goals and values. This will keep your recovery on track, have the proper support and empathy, and compassion from other people walking a similar journey. Sharing stories about your life with other people can create and deepen bonds, especially when you speak with other men and women whose stories you understand on a personal level. Getting to know other people and hearing their stories can also significantly impact your recovery, as you can learn from their journey and use their experiences to help you steer clear of potentially harmful choices.
If you attend meetings regularly, you will likely notice a flurry of powerful emotions and feelings such as hope, joy, and gratitude for the new way of life that you will discover through AA and the people there.
