Beware of Fake At Home Drug Detox Products

Addiction Recovery Scammers: At Home Drug Detox Products

In every industry where there are desperate people looking for a solution to a problem, you can find scam artists who are willing to take advantage of other people’s misery for their own benefit. Addiction treatment is one such industry that is being plagued by scammers. It doesn’t come as a surprise since over 20 million people in the United States are addicted to drugs or alcohol. In this article, we will take a closer look at some of the at home drug detox kits that you should avoid and explore the genuine ways to deal with an addiction.

At Home Drug Detox That Promise More Than They Can Deliver

It’s important to be aware of the many falsely-advertised at home drug detox kits. They all have one thing in common: they promise to make addiction treatment “easy and fast” when in fact treatment for addiction is complex and according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, treatment needs to last for roughly three months to be effective.

Many people who are dealing with withdrawal from drugs such as heroin or prescription pain killers are frantically trying to find a way to relieve their symptoms, and they then fall victim to the fast and easy at home drug detox kits that promise to not only cure their withdrawal but work as a complete treatment for addiction.

The Federal Trade Commission has already took on two such companies that are scamming people who are in need of drug detox rehab centers and not empty promises. The two companies that have been sued are:

  • Sunrise Neutraceuticals – At this company, they sell herbal products that have unsupported claims that they can stop opioid cravings. The product in question is called “Elimidrol”, but the only thing that can reduce cravings thus far is another opioid, such as methadone or buprenorphine.
  • Caitlin Enterprises – This company has two products called “Recovery Ease” and “Withdrawal Ease”. The company claims that both of their products for opioid addiction can make addiction detox symptoms easy to deal with, but their claims are unsubstantiated. They also claim that through their products, overcoming addiction is easier; however, as with their other claim, there is no scientific evidence that it will work.

The Proper Way to Treat Withdrawal and Addiction

The only way you can protect yourself from potential scammers is to understand how addiction is best treated – based on years of scientific research and evidence.

There is no such thing as a quick fix for addiction, nor is there a medication that can, by itself, cure addiction. Addiction is a brain disorder that like many mental disorders, takes time to properly treat. If you speak with an addiction specialist at reputable drug detox rehab centers that are backed by the national standards for addiction treatment, then they will inform you that the way to beat addiction is as follows:

  • Medically assisted detoxAddiction detox symptoms are no joke. Some can even be life threatening. However, there are medications such as methadone, suboxone and benzodiazepines that can actually help to reduce symptoms. These medications are Scheduled drugs and therefore can only be obtained through a prescription.
  • Inpatient and outpatient rehab – Detox cannot cure addiction; only through further therapy can one properly gain control of an addiction. Whether in outpatient or residential programs, addicts can learn new ways to deal with their triggers and to promote a healthy way of life.
  • Aftercare – Even after rehab, maintenance of addiction is still required because as stated before, there is no cure. Support groups and sober living environments help recovering individuals to manage their addiction in the long term.
