Patient Celebrates Two Years of Sobriety

Tools and Resources for Lasting Sobriety

WhiteSands Treatment Fort Myers patient, Steven, celebrates two years of sobriety. “I’ve been clean and sober over 2 years thanks to the tools I walked away with from WhiteSands”, says Steven. Sobriety is a long journey. For some patients, it can take years to achieve and maintain.

To help you stay on track, support programs, aftercare, and relapse prevention plans are implemented as part of the outpatient and aftercare programs. Some of the benefits of the different types of aftercare programs include the following:

  • Support groups: Support groups are a great way to meet people who are going through similar experiences and challenges. Some of our favorite support groups include Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), and SMART Recovery.
  • Aftercare: Aftercare is any program designed to provide continuing care to individuals in recovery from drug or alcohol addiction and mental health conditions. The program is part of the full continuum of treatment offered through WhiteSands Treatment.
  • Relapse prevention: Through several strategies that focus on avoiding people, places, and things that are associated with substance abuse, patients can mitigate the chances of relapse. In addition, relapse prevention involves learning skills that help patients cope with stressful situations without turning back to drugs or alcohol as coping mechanisms.
  • Medications for alcohol addiction treatment: Medications are not always necessary for treating alcoholism, but some medications may help prevent relapse in some people with alcohol use disorder who have been drinking heavily for years or decades. The three medications approved by the FDA for treating alcoholism are naltrexone (Revia), acamprosate (Campral), and disulfiram (Antabuse).
